The infinite shine polishes are still regular nail lacquer, so you can use any lacquer base and top coat you want. Works fine, it's just regular nail polish. I use my usual top coat and base coat with it, no issues. I've used them with OPI rapidry top coat and Morgan Taylor stick with it base. I dont know what top and base youre planning on ... I want to like Essie polish. I really do. However, either I'm doing something wrong or Essie is the worst quality polish I have ever used. It goes on thin and streaky, brushstrokes are visible no matter what I do, and it chips off within 24 hours. I've tried Essie top coat, my normal top coat, and no top coat. Didn't know what the proper way was. I just file. I only clip my nails then file when they are really long and I need to shorten them significantly. I only file. I usually have longer nails but when they're short I just file. I'll clip to trim back my nails and then file when they're longer. I prefer to use glass files.

Because this is living skin, clipping it will cause it to callus and grow back hard and cracked (this is because the skin is basically trying to defend itself).
